THE GIFT
THE GIFT
GENRE
Drama Series, inspired by real events.
LOGLINE
“The Gift” is a tender love story about two musicians destined to be together, despite the many challenges and other-worldly separations they must endure.
SYNOPSIS
In this Age of Mysticism, “The Gift” stands out as the compelling saga of a Musician’s lifelong search for meaning through the realization of his musical journeys through Time and Space. Viewers will be challenged to decide what is real and what is imagined, and to wonder whether it even matters. Written in a style much discussed in the media: Spirituality without Religion, where past, present, and future are of no importance. The fictional story carefully and compassionately addresses a question all people ask themselves in the privacy of their minds: is communication with the spiritual essence of those no longer physically alive not only possible, but achievable?
MAIN CHARACTERS
The Narrator
The voice of the series introduces each Episode with a flair for the mysterious, setting the stage for viewers.
Woody Reed (protagonist)
A 12-year-old Jazz saxophone protege taken under the wing of a 63-year-old trumpet master. Woody searches for meaning in life, realized through his performances and consideration of an important question: ‘Is this all there is?’
Trumpet Man (antagonist)
The trumpet master mentors Woody through years of growth and learning. Moments before his physical death during an on-stage performance together, Trumpet Man issues solemn last words that will dictate Woody’s life journey from that moment on, remaining a recurring character not only through flashbacks of his life, but also through his spiritual delivery of telepathic communication with Woody from beyond the physical world.
The Performer
A major influence in Woody’s life after the death of Trumpet Man, The Performer delivers the truth of Woody’s future in no uncertain terms by bringing him back to the performance stage for a concert with his own band.
Violetta
A ‘lovely young woman’ who captivates Woody’s heart and soul. Their intertwined destiny provides the underlying love story of the series. They find each other. They lose each other. Will they end up together after all? Violetta remains the focus of Woody’s episodic search for meaning.
Lenny Dee
At first glance, the ‘Impresario of The Ellicott Room’ appears to be the buffoon gangster of the series. But it soon becomes clear that he is much underestimated in business acumen, as well as human compassion as Violetta’s guardian after the death of her parents.
Ivory Keyes
The ebony skinned pianist from Jamaica is Woody’s long time friend and music colleague, providing an empty couch in his apartment in Woody’s times of need.
Brian
A waiter at Woody and Violetta’s favorite restaurant, he has a crush on Violetta. But in a desperate time of need, Brian becomes Woody’s trusted friend, introducing Violetta to his mysterious sister, Brianna.
Brianna
A mysterious woman who helps Violetta through rough times, Brianna and Violetta establish a necessary sisterhood in search of Woody when he literally disappears from the face of the earth after a deadly fire at The Ellicott Room, Lenny Dee’s famous club.
Armstrong Fingers
A bald giant of a man and a gifted musician who helps Woody reach a momentous decision in his search for Violetta.
Thomas
A restaurant waiter who plays an important role in reuniting Woody and Violetta through communicating with both of them in different times and places.
